Semester : II Semester 2 2011/2012 Synopsis : This course introduces the concepts of statistical mechanics and quantum statistics. The properties of large numbers of particles and the Fermi Dirac, Bose-Einstein and Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution laws are discussed. Upon completion, the student must have the ability solve problems, relating to the properties of large numbers of particles and explain theconnection between entropy and the number of accessible quantum states. The students should also be able to relate between the free energy and the partition function and be able to calculate the properties of different systems.
