Synopsis :
Based on outcome based framework this course begins with the basic concepts of spectroscopy followed by the properties of electromagnetic waves and material analyses using the spectroscopic tools. Various sources of electromagnetic radiation, laser as source and the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter is emphasized. The basic instrumentation of spectroscopy is underscored. The concept of spectrum and their characteristics are highlighted. Basics on UV-Vis spectroscopy are underlined. The infrared spectroscopy followed by Raman spectroscopy is highlighted in addition to the NMR spectroscopy. Overall, the course provides fundamental knowledge on the spectroscopy techniques for material analysis, spectroscopic instrumentations and their basic working principle that are mainly used in the material science industry and technology exploration.
